January 20th I planned a special intro class with my workplace CrossFit trainer down in San Diego, and invited some local Sparkers to join me! In the end, it was NEWSGIRL2177, and our local city team leader, SPRING4FAL! Space was limited to 5 people, so although I had originally put out feelers to see who wanted to come a month before, we didn't end up packing the limited class.
Me, SPRING4FAL, NEWSGIRL2177 (their pages below)
We got more than we bargained for, because although at my work the exercises are limited to moves accomplished without equipment, we had the gym to discover. Time went too quickly, but we crammed in:
-Rowing machine warm up, 500 meters
(I went as fast as I could, still trying to prove to the instructor how strong I am; that I'm more than my larger size and less-capable fitness level in class - really all the insecurities that are MINE, and not really her opinion)
-Skill-testing squats - low, low, low, low
-Gymnast-ring/ TRX strap body-weight rows
-Overhead presses (barbell)
-Kettleball 4 minute intense workout (insanely intense)
-Stretching and rolling using a foam roller
It was my first time with most of it, and while uncomfortable to do things that weren't familiar, I got to ask a million questions and push through those panicky feelings that come from challenging my body in new ways. I need much more experience with that. I plan to one day be able to calmly handle anything. ;) Even if I *can't* do it, I will be calm, accepting and kind to myself.
My big booty has powerful muscles! Look out!

Chalk for your grip
Look at me!!
One day I will climb a big gnarly rope just using my arms!
But for now I'll just pretend! ;)
Special thanks to NEWSGIRL2177 for being our paparazzi/photo journalist!
Afterward Heather and I took advantage of being in San Diego and had lunch at Sammy's Woodfired Pizza. (Menu - )
Our dining screamed SoCal to me.. From the decor, to the options, to the beautiful weather and palm trees - I try to take special notice of these things since we pay the premium prices to live here. (Remember, it's the middle of winter). We were seated in the outdoor/enclosed dining...
To the left
and to the right
We shared a gluten-free pizza and roasted veggie salad. Pretty delicious!
Then we took a little walk to the store next door with silly nouveau decor.. I saw a piece of art that inspires me to shellac make my own canvas art:
And some creepy hands-coming-out-of-the-wall things:
Life has so much living to do in it.
