Finally think I am on to something

I woke up this morning with my whole body aching and that fuzzy feeling. I really started thinking about what I did different yesterday as I was feeling so good for the last several day. What I came up with thanks to something another sparks person mentioned in a blog (thank you Liz). It was mentioned that tomatoes might be a food that you have to watch if you have RA and might cause inflammation. I don't have RA, but I have very bad arthritis. Anyway since I log everything I eat and now am tracking how I feel. I looked back and I think there is a correlation between tomatoes and my aches and pains. Yesterday I ate a lot of tomato for lunch, like a cup and a half. So thanks to Liz I printed off a list of foods that might be reactive or cause inflammation. Oh and get this....even though I ate the right calories I was up a half pound today. So today I am going to look at that list and eat only foods that have the lowest possible reactive qualities. I really am thinking that there is something to this new diet/book The Plan. I am going to look into getting the book but I want to wait until I can get a hard copy of it as if I download it to my Kindle I can't print handouts and such. But looking forward to really trying the diet.

    I am so glad you found a list of food to watch out for in your diet. My husband has crohn's disease. He's not allowed any complex carbs or sugars. Pretty much an Atkin type diet. After only one week on this diet he was better. They say the diet is used for RA also. Interesting you found yet another diet. Good luck.

    How great that you very well may have found the culprit of your distress. Sorry that you've not felt that well, but wouldn't it be exciting if you figured out what has caused your issues?? Wishing you continued success. You'll be back down that half pound soon - bet tomorrow! Take care, Sallie

    You think maybe it might be because tomatoes are acidic? Have you ever looked at the acidic diet? Just a thought.

    Much of the struggle is figuring out your own personal dietary needs. There are a ton of studies showing coffee is good for you, except for excessive caffeine that is well understood. But I find from personal experience that excessive coffee, even if decaf, gives me problems. That's not a particularly useful fact for anyone else, but it means I need to drink tea if I'm going to drink a lot of something hot.

Congratulations on finding out about tomatoes and your own personal metabolism!

    Sorry you aren't feeling well, but glad you figured out that tomatoes. There are a few foods that I have to avoid, even combinations of foods.

    Thank goodness for the awesome Spark community!! Go Liz! Yes, you sure can learn things from other people's experiences. It makes sense there might be trigger foods that might make you feel bad. Its a shame that tomatoes may be a culprit as they are so very healthy, and in Mexico they are quite the mainstay in a lot of their foods, aren't they? By careful tracking of your food and how you feel, you sure will get a picture of anything that may be bothering you. I have heard a number of Sparksters touting that diet The Plan. Unfortunately, some of the foods they are calling reactive are staples in my diet being a vegetarian, like Greek Yogurt, cauliflower, peppers, cottage cheese, black beans, lentils, endame, Quinoa, not good and I am not interested in getting into meat, just don't care for it, but I have to get protein from somewhere.

    Sallie, I have found I eat twice as many calories as I used and I am at my lowest weight in years, feel so much better and doing yoga has become an option rather than a necessity to get moving. My joints aren't nearly as creaky ans stiff as they used to be.

    I hope you find the answer. I know you aren't worrying about the weight, but you definitely want to feel good! Keep that list handy so that if you do eat one of those foods, you can see how it makes you feel. Good luck!
