One of our best friends celebrated his 65th birthday today AND his retirement. Many of his friends gathered for an open house at one of our local sports bars. I was a little uncertain of just what there would be for me to eat, having been there several times before lunch and dinner. The menu choices were all pretty much high calorie, high fat items, so I was pretty skeptical.
What a surprise! When we got there, I saw that there was a buffet table set up. From where we were sitting I couldn't see just what was on the buffet, but was still a little apprehensive. When we finally decided to make a trip, I was pleasantly surprised that there were huge platters of fresh fruits and vegetables, along with hot pans of lean pulled beef and another of green beans, There were also large containers of pasta salad and coleslaw, but I chose to pass on those, not knowing the dressing ingredients.
All in all, there was no cause for worry about overeating or poor nutrition. On the contrary, I was able to cover all 5 servings of my fruits and veggies in one sitting!
Happy Birthday Jimmy and Happy Retirement!
