THE PERFECT THEATRE--PART 1

Saturday, February 16, 2013

I've been going to the Parker Playhouse in Fort Lauderdale since 1979. It is the perfect theatre as far as I am concerned with excellent sightlines and great acoustics. I've seen stars like Liz Taylor and Kathleen Turner and plays like "Bent" and "Steel Magnolias". On January 16 I went there to see "Agatha Christie's BBC Murders" looking forward to the show and the theatre.

(From wikipedia.com)

The Parker Playhouse is a 1,191-seat theatre in southern Florida.

The Playhouse was established by Dr. Louis Parker. The curtain rose for the first time on February 6, 1967 as E.G. Marshall and Dennis O'Keefe starred in Neil Simon ’s The Odd Couple . Parker teamed with Broadway impresario Zev Buffman who was also producing shows in Miami at the Coconut Grove Playhouse , to offer productions featuring many of the top theater artists of the day. Parker Playhouse has produced continuously for nearly 40 years with community arts organizations joining Broadway headliners in shows that made South Florida theater history.

Since 2006 the Parker Playhouse is controlled by the Performing Arts Center Authority ("PACA") – the governing body that oversees the Broward Center for the Performing Arts which manages the theater and provides the programming on its stage.

I have seen and heard the Fort Lauderdale Gay Men's Chorus from the last row and Florence Henderson, (dressed in leather with whip!!!), in the over 60 Follies in the first row. I've seen Dame Edna, plays, musicals, some of the biggest Broadway and Hollywood stars in classic and new plays without ever having a bad seat. No matter where you are you will see and hear everything. There is no middle aisle so there is plenty of room between the aisles for people to pass without stepping on your toes or your having to get up.
