Before the Race!
Today was the big day. My honey was gonna run it with me, but he had a sore back and a headcold, but he stayed out there with me in the 20 degree weather to cheer me on. (In case I never say it, I LOVE him!)
So, anyway, I have been watching the weather for weeks and seeing the temperature predictions swing anywhere between 35-55, However, as today it got closer, the temp range kept getting smaller and lower... so yesterday, they were saying it should be around 25 @ the 0900 race time. But what we got was 20, clear and VERY cold. I wore 2 pr of leggings, one long sleeved shirt and two light jackets, a scarf, gloves and hat! I am really glad that I did!
I had two main goals for the run: run it all and beat my time from the First Night 5K on 31 December. I batted 500 today in that I beat my previous time by 23 seconds.... completing the 5K in 31:07! I am happy with that, especially since it was so cold.
That is me with the red/grey hydration pack on ...
It went smoothly, I felt great and very warm when I was done. I am really looking forward to my next race!
But for today, I can be happy with a small improvement and keep working towards running an entire 5K!
My souvenir medal and bib!
Sadly, there were accidentally 2 chips put in my race packet, and I put on the wrong one, so I didn't show up in the standings anywhere. As ANNIEONLI said, "put on all chips that you find!"
I am not upset, I know I ran a decent race, it is what it is.
Next up the Jay Dix Memorial 5K here in Columbia MO!
