So disappointed.

Saturday, February 16, 2013

I shouldn't be. I did Parkrun this morning and finally met my goal of running the whole thing without a walking break!

Because of that I convinced myself I must have finally broken the 37 minute barrier. How could I not? I mean, some of it I may as well have been walking I was going that slow, but I still ran. It had to be quick. I was floating!

Then the text came through. 37:21.

I still shouldn't be disappointed, that's 11 seconds faster than my fastest! But I am.
I'm sure I'll be able to appreciate a new personal best soon, just not right now. When you come down with such a bump it takes a while to recover.

Every second counts! You are doing great and you improved your time by 11 seconds! That is amazing job! One more day like this and you'll be under 37mins.

Gradual progress. I am not a racer, I am a runner. It is easy to feel disappointed because today was not the day to beat 37. There can be all kinds or reason for a particular time. The direction of wind, the few people who started in front but were going slower than your pace.

I am a Chi Runner, a Chi Running instructor, a taiji player, and a practioner of Qigong, each of these teach gradual progress. It is the journey we must learn to love. Enjoy the fact that you ran the whole thing.

Back in November, I ran my first official full 5K. I pushed really hard and I really wanted to break the 37:00 barrier. I came in at 37:03. That was almost 2:30 better than my previous best, but to be so close to breaking the barrier? It was more disappointing than getting 38 minutes! I know how you feel. I'm sure you'll be the 37 mins soon!
