Why I Want To Tame My Sweet Tooth

Saturday, February 16, 2013

This blog is part of the Week 1 Action Plan for the Official Tame Your Sweet Tooth Challenge - to list the reasons why I want to tame my sweet tooth:

1. Strong family history of diabetes.
2. I want to enjoy eating fruits & vegetables again, and when I'm indulging my sweet tooth they aren't appealing to me.
3. When I'm indulging my sweet tooth I have no will power - it truly is an addiction for me, the more sweets I eat, the more I want. I want to be in control of my diet.
4. I have strong, healthy teeth & I want to keep them that way.
5. Sweet, sugary snacks may make me feel good for a few minutes but the feeling wears off very quickly, leaving me feeling fat & sluggish. I want to feel alive & energized.

That's a pretty good list of reasons to tame my sweet tooth.

Eat fruit and vegetables slowly so you have time to enjoy their subtle flavor. After giving up hyperpalatable foods, you'll find other foods have more flavor. I don't like the flavor of most highly processed foods. I find the flavors too complex. I like simpler flavor combinations. It takes time.

It does take a little bit of time, but it's worth it. After a month or so of no simple sugars, fruit will taste sweeter. A pineapple will taste like it will rot the teeth right out of your mouth, it will tast so sweet.

Processed sugar and sweets made with HFCS are awful poisons to put in
our bodies.

My last two bloodworks have come back great, my blood sugar is normal
and my Acid Reflux is gone, so I am sticking with my plan.

Everyone has a weakness. Like you, as long as I don't take the first bite,
I am good.

Good luck and may God give you the strength to overcome your passion
for sugars....
