Busy day today...

Saturday, February 16, 2013

I had a busy day today. Mainly because I got a late start getting out of here this morning. Tried to catch my friend Donna at the hospital to find out how Ralph was but missed her. I couldn't see him because he was in ICU. I did catch up with her later in the afternoon and found out they didn't inflate his collapsed lung all the way, but closed him back up during surgery. Not sure what that's about. But they haven't told Ralph he has cancer yet. The doctor wants to wait until they get the pathology report back. Ralph is just the sweetest man. 83 years old and such a charmer.

So then I stopped by a really good bakery we have here and pick up these HUGE oatmeal chocolate chip cookies (2 each, about the size of a small plate!) for Eunice and Mona, the two little ladies in retirement homes that I visit every month. Chatted with each of them for awhile. Then I ended up at my friend Claire's for two hours. She just had back surgery.

Claire asked me today if I was interested in being on the Pastoral Care Staff at Ogden Regional Hospital. I was so surprised. She is on staff there and would like me to get the training and come on board. I would love to do that, but am puzzled about how to get back and forth since I seldom have a car. And if you're on duty and there is an accident or certain types of emergency surgery scheduled, you have to be able to come at a moment's notice. I really think I'd like to do this. But it's a matter of prayer, 'cause as I said, I need a car...

It is kind of weird that she asked me that today because when Arn and I were talking in bed last night he said he'd been talking to one of the ladies that is the head of the volunteer office at McKay-Dee hospital (the other one in Ogden) and she asked him if I was ready to come be a volunteer yet. How about that! Two non-paying job offers in two days! LOL Still, I do think I would love the job at Ogden Regional as it comes with training and everything. And I know two of the Catholic Sisters that are involved with it. Actually, I don't know if that IS a non-paid position. But it wouldn't matter. I would love it.

So I didn't get home till 5:30 tonight, right in the middle of rush-hour traffic. But it's payday today, so we went out to our favorite Mexican restaurant for dinner. I'm always good when I go there. A few chips with salsa, a cup of refried beans, and two hard-shell, shredded beef tacos. Oh! And a Bud Light! Since I'm not having soda pop or tea anymore. Their water there tastes like it has chlorine in it. Yuck. And tonight I'm tired. Waiting for Arn to come upstairs to do a Lenten devotion so I can hit the sack.

Ah! I hear said lordship trudging up the stairs. News must be over... Time to go.

Can you take the bus ? How far away from the hospital are you ? Maybe his lordship could drop you off and pick you up when you needed a ride. are you close enough to ride a bike ? lots of people ride bikes to work. Working as part of the Pastoral Care Staff sounds like a great opportunity.

You should look into options for transportation i.e. car pool, bus, trains, etc.

And that was sweet of you to bring those ladies a cookie from that fancy pastry shop. yum...
