I'm winding down my day. I just entered my food for the evening (yes, I ate two Oreo cookies, they were good and I'd planned for a treat), I looked at some friends blogs (everyone sounds pretty OK heading into the weekend), and all in all it was a very good day.
I'm so lucky to be living on an island right now when my home is in the cold mountains. Being in 70+ weather is so nice and especially helpful for my exercise. Back home I was having trouble getting into a routine of going to the gym a few times a week. I prefer to exercise outside and here I can do it.
More thoughts going through my head as I wind things down.....I had fun riding my bike today, that's no surprise but I sure am glad to be able to do it. What else? I read an article in "More" that talked about general movement helping you lose weight and I found it interesting. Its an approach where you get up and do something every 15 or 30 minutes throughout your work day rather than just being glued on your duff at your desk. I'm thinking "this is something I can do." The article said that just getting moving like this consistantly will keep your metabolism moving just slightly more than normal and it all makes a difference. Hmmmmm.
If you've read my blog before you may have picked up that I'm a big believer in the calorie deficit formula. This plays right into that. If I ride my bike for an hour and burn 300 calories, then walk my dog for an hour or so, that's 150-200 calories. That would be a standard planned exercise day for me. If I could routinely burn another 100 by moving 8 more times a day (say one 10 minute break every working hour?) I could see how that could piggy back on what I've already established...that would have to be a good thing. (I've also heard how sitting for 8 hours a day will actually shorten your life so I've been trying to think about getting up and stretching every so often anyway).
I'm going to try it. Have a good weekend and good night!
