Ms. S.'s family -- parents -- were due to arrive mid-afternoon for a brunch themed dinner party.
In the afternoon.
Waffles, steak & eggs, omelets and frittatas, mimosas ... did I mention waffles? Two kinds: my standard vegan waffles, which work well for me and Ms. S. these days, and a sourdough waffle made from some of my starter, which I fed around noon. I had a rock cornish game hen that I cooked for Ms. S.'s father and myself (put a little basil, rosemary, thyme, salt, pepper, lemon zest, and olive oil under the skin ... then 75 minutest at 350 in the oven, more or less). For the omelets and frittatas we had chickpeaks, tomatoes, broccoli, onions (all sauteed/grilled), and cheese as fillings. The chip-n-dip contained cantaloup, berries as toppings for the waffles, and orange slices. We had grapefruit that we never bothered cutting up because there was so much food.
And for dessert there were the chocolate chickpea cakes I made yesterday, a bit more than half with a chocolate ganache 'frosting'/'glaze' (almond milk and semi-sweet chocolate, a dash of vanilla), and about a third or almost a half with a Greek yogurt, powdered sugar, and vanilla frosting/glaze.
After the mimosas and screwdrivers we had the well-timed arrival of White Russians and and evening of disussion, which didn't end until after 10:30.
We need more dinner parties like this ... I just like entertaining, having guests, the like.
And now for TV or a movie to close out the night.
