Do Lent Generously Challenge
Friday, February 15, 2013
Lent began on Wednesday with Ash Wednesday (Why do we put large ashy black crosses on our forehead and then listen to a verse that tells us not to draw attention to ourselves while we fast and pray?) and I signed up for the Do Lent Generously Challenge.
Day one asked us to set up a generosity bag of stuff to take with us and maybe share some of these items with others. I did this last night. In my bag is: coin change (My coin purse was overflowing. Maybe I can surreptitiously drop some coins in the penny cups at some local stores.), some combs that someone had given me at the local food pantry as a thank you for volunteering there and serving her, floss packets collected from my and my families many dentist trips, box of bandaids, two chapsticks, two bars of soap, 2 sample size containers of moisturizing cream (and no, not those cut open with scissors packs), a pack of ink pens, two little notebooks, two packs of chewing gum, a bag of wrapped chocolates and a box of granola bars. I will take this bag of stuff with me when I head out, but I have no idea if I will find anyone to give some of it to.
Day two asked us to do something to show we care about another person. I made the meal that my son had requested for Valentine's Day, even though my hubby was sick and only felt up to eating a small amount of it. (Which is an improvement. The two days before he had eaten very little, so yesterday was the first day he had some of his appetite back, but a bit of an upset stomach from the antibiotics.)
Have not read day three yet, which is today, but it is in my email. If anyone else is doing this challenge, would love to hear what you are doing.
