Met with the endocrinologist today and with a nutritionist. Insulin Resistance was confirmed due to PCOS. They did a lot of blood work and my sugar was a bit high... on the edge of "pre-diabetic" NOT COOL! anyway... i have one more test to take, my Dr. wants to rule out Cushings Disease. But otherwise, I have a plan to move forward.
basically i was told that with what I have, I have to work 4 times harder than a normal person to get any weight loss results at all. yay for me? *sigh*
My Dr. prescribed Metformin and will hopefully hope with the process... Met with the nutritionist and I'll be working on 1400 calories (higher protein, lower carb, low sodium) calories heavy earlier in the day. dinner as early as possible then at least 30 minutes of cardio AFTER dinner every day and get in at least 10,000 steps a day not including my cardio. No snacks after dinner.
she said "if all goes well, you can drop one or two pounds a month" which makes me want to laugh and cry at the same time. in theory the medicine may help and i'll lose at a more normal rate... maybe/maybe not... I'm starting at 500mg per day and working my way up to 2000mg. slowing adding 500mg every 5 days. I will work up to 2000mg or stop if it makes me feel bad. There's a common side effect of Gastrointestinal issues- YIPPEEE!
So anyway... this is the new plan. I check back in with the nutritionist in 3 weeks to see how things are going to see if we need to tweek things.
I'm cautiously optomistic... and going to have to find creative ways to get all my steps in. with winter still here i don't get to walk outside too much. though DH agreed to walk the dog with me after dinner so long as there isn't a lot of ice and snow.
here we go! *FINGERS CROSSED*
