Health is so much more than weight

Thursday, February 14, 2013

Mind (mental health)-Relax. Listen to music, sing to the lyrics out loud (don't worry about how you sound), Watch your favorite television show or read an interesting book. Try meditating or try guided meditation. Light a pleasantly scented candle. Recommended scent: Sweet Pea. Take a bubble bath. Go out and enjoy nature, etc.

Body-Eat right and move. Recommended: Intuitive eating. It's not a diet at all and it's reasonable for just about anyone and it is said to be very helpful for Binge eaters and bulimics. Link: http://www.intuitiveeating.org

Sleep well (very important), pamper yourself take care of yourself and wear clothes that makes you feel good.

Soul-Do something you love each day, even if it's just for five minutes. Write,
paint, play the guitar, garden, play the sport you can't enough of, read, etc. Suggestion: Do something you did when you were younger. For example, write a letter to a friend, or family member.

Mind/Body/Soul-Be kind to yourself. A stranger or a relative saying something rude or crude about your weight or health doesn't accomplish anything. Well, Talking to yourself negatively doesn't achieve anything either. It's not productive. It's wasted energy. Worth isn't measured in numbers. Bashing your body or yourself in anyway is unhealthy for your mind, body, and soul. The goal is to be healthy so set yourself free from the negative inner voice. SHE (or he) is nothing more than an ignorant bully. Instead of bashing your body and saying you hate it, how about being appreciative of your body (and all the amazing things it can do/does) and tell yourself you are going to improve your body. Working to improve something you don't like=productive.

Perspective. So you may be overweight or underweight today. You may think your arms ridiculously fat or ridiculously twig-like but at least YOU HAVE ARMS. I would take my fat arms any day over not having arms at all. It's okay to not be where you want to be at this moment. You have time to improve what you want to improve. You don't have time to take things for granted because nothing is guaranteed. Stop taking stuff for granted.

I am not where I want to be at all but today is a gorgeous day and I am going to take full advantage and enjoy it. That's healthy. :)

Definitely a healthy outlook, which is PART of a healthy lifestyle - not just in what you eat and how you move, but your self-talk. God bless you on this life journey.
