Shaking Up My Workout...

On Sparkpeople Coaching today Coach Nicole suggested that we shake up our workout and do something different--whether it be a new activity, a different intensity, etc.

My main form of exercise was dog-walking. I would walk 100+ minutes per day with beloved pooch. He LOVED getting out and enjoying the sights, sounds and smells of our community and "hunting down" a kitty cat or two-- but never fear he never did a kitty cat any harm.

Sadly, our dog passed away this week so I necessarily have to shake up my workout.

The good news is I am back to zumba, which I LOVE.

It was a time issue before--that is why I stopped doing it. Now, time is not an excuse for me and so far it is going well.

My goal this first week is to do at least 20 minutes of zumba daily. Today I did "zumba cardio" for 50 minutes and feel GREAT!

Tomorrow--and the rest of the weekend-- I have a hectic schedule so my aim is at least 20 minutes + other activity wherever I can fit it in each day. Things like walking the stairs (and not taking elevators), taking the long walking route to get to point A from Point B, etc.

I also want to dabble in a little strength training--which I almost never do (shame on me!) I have some free weights. My goal is to start with arm curls, etc. and then increase it from there. I have a rubber thingy with handles (forgot what you call it)--and want to do some of that next week in addition to zumba.

What about you? Are you shaking up your exercise routine?

    I recently saw a 16 minute "Bollywood Cardio Workout" here on SparkPeople that actually looks fun! Maybe I'll try that, for a change. I'm pretty faithful with my elliptical and/or walking...and I agree shaking things up might be a really good idea!

    I also found a 15 minute Qi Gong routine, not much in the calorie burning department, but really nice for calming, breathing, relaxing and getting a new perspective.

    Good for you for making time for yourself and changing things up; and I'm really sorry to hear about your furry friend.

    I have added ST to my routine or at least I am trying to incorporate it at least 3x a week. I do my cardio/treadmill in the am and then while I'm watching a show in the evening I can do my ST. I do upper body one day and lower body the next and then core. Haven't noticed a huge difference yet, but I always feel better when I do it!

    I too take the pooches for walks and understand the time constraints. I am so sorry for the loss of your baby!

    I too am trying to get in ST and have begun a challenge on a team I help lead. I'm sorry to hear you had to part with your pet, but it's good that the loss hasn't derailed your exercise efforts. Well done!

    Good for you! I have been sick and unable to exercise most of the last month. I'm still at the walking stage. I'm hoping to maybe go back to the gym soon, but healing has to come first. I am a big fan of mixing up exercise.
