Last night, I saw a report on the news that a new study shows that consistent walking can be the most effective way to fight both diabetes and high cholesterol. This was extremely encouraging news! I started walking every day on January 9th. 36 days later, I'm still going strong, and averaging 11 miles per day (10 miles per day in January, and 12.8 miles per day so far in February). In the past month, my blood sugar has come down significantly (it was exceptionally high after the trauma of surgery, and now it's well within normal ranges all the time). If I'm able to keep this up, I really do think I'll be able to get off all medications by my birthday in June.

In other news, I've got quite a few trips coming up in the next couple of months. in 5 weeks, we go on our road trip to Kentucky, Tennessee, and North Carolina. In 8 weeks, I'm going to a conference in Seattle, and in 10 weeks, we're surprising the kids with a trip to Disney World and Universal Studios for their birthday!

One of the things I've been concerned about is making sure that I fit on the rides-- particularly "Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey" in Universal's Islands of Adventure. I'd heard that this particular ride was not so kind to larger folks, so it's a huge goal for me to be able to get on that ride without incident. Ideally, I'd like to lose about 22 more pounds before we go. I'm working really hard, so we'll see if I can make that happen! With all of the travel in between, it might be especially difficult to get exercise in. I'll just have to do my best and keep plugging on.

If you average 11 miles per day, you should have no trouble dropping those pesky pounds... (as long as you don't use it to justify bigger meals!)

You are on the right track (pun intended)!!!!!

Wow!!!!! You are doing so well with the walking; I average only three or four miles a day and not so much lately. Give yourself a bigggggggggg pat on the back. You rock, girl! emoticon
