I managed my 10,000 steps thanks to walking buddies.

Wednesday, February 13, 2013

I was Sparking this morning and the phone rang, it was one of my walking buddies. She was asking if we can walk today--Yes for sure. Then the next question is WHERE!!!
I wear cleats to walk in snow and she wanted to walk outdoors. I arranged to meet at the library since I am the only one in town they are out of town with few sidewalks out there.
That means it is up to me to look out for the places to walk. The rail trail looked really well cleared it is hot top so it was actually dry so I was anxious to walk it..
Another Buddy met us at the library and she needed to stay closer to the library because she had an appointment.

We decided to walk along the middle of the side streets. We found some streets had sidewalks cleared by the sidewalk plow and then where the plow had stopped we had to walk around the snow.
I was glad to have worn my cleats it is always a great idea to have boots with cleats stashed in the vehicle because one can go in to a store and it snows while I am in there and I dislike walking on snow or ice but it has to be done so I take my slip on shoes in to the store and change and likewise I change my shoes to boots in the door way as I leave. I am surprised how many people think that is a smart thing to do but I do believe vanity prevents them from following my example.

I had to wear them when I had my back surgery. I was afraid I would fall down but I have become so used to them, there's no problem for me to do it. People look let them look I have to feel safe.
I sometimes wear cleats inside the stores so I hear click-click- click and watch people look at my feet.

When I got back to the library I looked at the Audio books. I am hoping to be able to do chores listening to a book.

I cannot sit with my lap top if TV is on I simply cannot concentrate so I thought I would try this to see if I can do house work or sewing and listen to Audio books. I have been doing very little reading and would like to get back to it and back to my sewing machine for a while.

As my title shows I got over 10,000 steps so I know I can do it. emoticon

I had blood work done today and a Dr appointment first one of the day tomorrow so I must stop here and get to my bed.

My blood work was ordered non-fasting for lipids I am not too happy about that. Anyone else has non fasting lipid profiles ordered by your Dr. It is supposed to be the new trend. I just hope it is not a mistake.

Thanks for listening Pat in Maine.

As a nurse, I can tell you that non-fasting lipids are unreliable & are influenced by what you've eaten, so...I don't understand the purpose of doing the test at all. Oh well...

Glad you're getting your walks in! Be careful tho! emoticon

Good job on the 10,000 steps. I'm working up to that again.
I always have to fast for my blood work and it drives me nuts, because I get up early and eat early. They don't open the lab until 8AM. I wish it was 7AM.
Good luck, hope you have a great Valentine's Day with your hubby.

Pat, Happy Valentines Day. I hope that you are able to enjoy it.

The weather is really nice out for walking. That was nice of your friends to ask you to walk with them. I know that you love to walk and your good at it. As your numbers show. Congratulations on your accomplishment.

When you walk at home, are you on a tredmill or just listening to something and walking in place? I would like to try some different ideas so that I can walk inside too. I was just wondering how you did yours. I'm afraid outside walking isn't something that I can do.

I will pray that your blood tests come out good and your visit with your doctor is a good one.

While I am still typing with one hand and am getting tired. I did a blog today. It is called, "Dot's Hand Progress". If you would like to read it.

Hope all is well with you and your husband,

    Love Dot

You had a good day walking in the snow. Sounds like a lot of fun.

Happy Valentine's Day! Our pastor who leads Bible Study here, our janitor and two men (resident's) are cooking breakfast for us women this morning. Our manager rented tablecloths and china dishes. We are having our choice of Sausage gravy and biscuits, omelets or pancakes or some of each. I chose the gravy and biscuits and a small omelet. It will be a lot of fun.

I love audio books. I drive about 70 minutes one way to work, so 140 minutes of listening time for me. I have listened to many books. First I got audio books on CD from the library, now I have an MP3 player that is very small with earphones. I download books free on line through my library. It also will play through the radio, so when driving I don't use the headphones. Happy Valentines Day. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Glad you were able to get your steps in and have the fun of doing so with friends! I do the cleat thing also. I have a pair in the house and one in my car. And people look at me too, and some people think I am being overly cautious, but I am the one who will have to endure any injury I might incur by falling, so I don't care what they say or think. Good for you for putting your safety first. Hope you ad Fred have a happy Valentine's Day!!! emoticon

I had to call my PCP to see if I needed blood work for a 6 month checkup, and even then we tried to figure out why I was a having it semi-annually...I should have written it down! I finally figured out that she wanted to keep tabs on the anti-anxiety meds I took for a brief time and then weaned myself off from when the side effects were worse than the anxiety I was feeling.

Hope all is well with your labs and that it is not a mistake.
