Extra Large Never Felt So Good!

Wednesday, February 13, 2013

I used to love to go clothes shopping. But that was many years ago when I was thin and I liked trying on clothes. Then I decided to let myself go and put on lots of pounds. When youíre only 5'4" it doesnít take many pounds to become round, and most clothes really donít look good on round. I know this from personal experience. I would go to the mall and see something that looked so nice on the rack, take it and try it on in the dressing room, quickly take it back off and return it to the rack. It was disheartening and I stopped shopping except when I absolutely had to have new clothes. The worst was when I had to move to the womenís sizes because the XL would no longer fit. Ugh. emoticon

Well, Monday was one of those days I was dreading. My blue jeans were worn so thin they were beginning to get holes in a few places. Time to get some new ones. I had put this off for a long time because I was determined I wasnít going to buy anymore clothes until I lost some more weight. Anyway, off I went to Kohlís where I could get in and out quickly. Like my last few trips, I headed to the womenís section and found a couple pair of jeans and started looking for shirts to go with them. Oh my gosh, I got so frustrated at the clothes in the womenís section. Who decided that elastic around the bottom of a plus size shirt is a good thing? All this does is accentuate how big my butt is! Arghhh. emoticon

Luckily, I did manage to find a couple shirts that, while not great, werenít hideous. Then something amazing happened; I took them into the dressing room to try them on and they were TOO BIG! And the pants were too loose also! emoticon emoticon

WooHoo, I was able to put them back on the rack and find pants and shirts in the regular clothing section. My shirts are still XL, but thatís a big step for me. This was just the motivation I was needing right now.

Furthermore, since today is the first day of lent Iíve decided to give up soft drinks. emoticon emoticon I love them so much, but I know theyíre really bad for you. If I can give them up for the next forty days, then I can kick this habit.

Tommy had to go today to get his chemo pump removed. Since it is raining outside, he dropped me off at the mall so I could walk indoors while he went for his appointment. Afterwards we went to a local cafeteria and I had pinto beans, broccoli, a cup of fresh fruit and unsweetened tea (with a little Spenda).

Yep, Iím ready to finish what I started so I can feel healthier and enjoy my hikes more this spring.

I hope everyone has a great Valentineís Day tomorrow.

emoticon You are on a roll! I experienced that same thing this Fall. I am about the same height as you and now I am finding that the petite size 10 jeans fit so much better that a regular size 10 and I don't have to cut 4 inches off and hem the petites. I still wear an XL top in almost all styles. Maybe someday this muffin top will go smaller. Ho hum.....Sop glad that you are having a wonderful week! emoticon

Congrats! on shopping in the regular section!! That is an awesome NSV!!
I used to *dread* jeans shopping too -- nothing ever fit right in all areas (excluding length -- I always expect to have tailored (5'1")). I don't mind it at all, although I am just sticking with the few pairs I bought when I reached goal a year ago... hoping they last a long time!

emoticon on giving up the soda! You will notice such an improvement in your weight loss efforts and any sweets cravings if you have those. It may be hard, but this one is worth it!!

Hope you & Tommy have a lovely Valentine's day tomorrow!

    Way to go Cindy!!!!

I had a similar, but not so happy an experience, when I went INTO plus sizes. I tried on a size 18 and it was too small!!!

It was a sad day in my life....and for the past few years I've been in 1 and 2x's. (back down to 1x). This from a size 8-10!!

All this illness, pain and inactivity makes it so hard.....but not impossible. Started with a new doc today - and a new attitude.
Fingers crossed ---- I'd love to see a 16 again!!!

YOU Made it!!!

Hugs, Libby

Congratulations on a bunch of things, but particularly size XL -- what is so awesome about that is that you can now shop in EVERY STORE, not just the one or two that carry the larger sizes! There's a whole new world of shopping out there now available to you. Hurray! Second, dropping pop from your routine is going to blow your mind. When you see and feel the difference, you will never go back to it. Can't wait to hear how you feel once you report in April. Once again, Congrats!
