Keep on going anyway

Wednesday, February 13, 2013

Today I had great intentions of running a long run (6 miles). However, I bit off more than I could chew. I haven't done any exercise for a couple days nor have I run for much longer. Jumping in and thinking I was going to run fast and long was a HUGE mistake. I did however manage a 29 min 5k. Not my best time, however I will take it. :-) I felt awful the duration of my run. I started out running too fast and then things got worse. I got tired fast, I couldn't catch my breath and I started feeling sick. My pride told me to push. Wisdom told me to listen to my body. Since humility is something I am striving for, I went with wisdom and listened to my body. Instead of 6 miles, I did 3. Feeling disappointed, I decided that I did good anyway. I ran a fast 5k and completed it strong (and extremely exhausted), yet I didnt quit. I wanted to quit, but I pushed through some mental barriers as well and just kept on going anyway. So, instead of feeling disappointed, I am happy that: 1) I got in a good run and 2) I was actually able to run faster than I have since I started training again this 'season'. I realize that pushing the boundaries is the only way to see what I am capable of doing. Now, after a nice hot shower, I am doing what I love.... watching NCIS and reclining. LOL

Well done! I'm in week 3 of 5k training - and "running" for me means jogging - and I'm pleased with that!
