Yesterday my son and I removed everything but a dresser from the guest room, then washed the walls and woodwork in preparation for painting. The room is now a dark cafe au lait. Since we're selling, it seemed a good time to lighten the room to neutralize it for potential buyers. Funny how you can live with a color, then find it needs to be changed to please someone else. As Realtors remind us, once the house goes on the market, it is no longer ours.
We have been making little fixes---those small problems that you ignore, but become glaring when you think someone will think you don't maintain the house. Everytime I can, I'm cleaning out a cupboard or drawer or closet to pare down and straighten. Neatness sells, at least I hope so.
I'm off to the store today to choose a color and will touch up the moulding first, then paint the walls on Thursday.
