Be Self-ish today!

Wednesday, February 13, 2013

What if Selfish became self-ish? Try taking this word, which has a negative connotation, and giving it a positive spin. It is time to be a little more self-ish!
There is a kabblistic tradition that was taught by Rabbi Joseph Gelberman that tells us to take each word and imbue each letter with a new, fuller meaning. Try this on for size:

S Nurture your SPIRIT.
E ENJOY moments alone.
L LOVE yourself.
F Keep FIT and FEEL good.
I Make your unique needs IMPORTANT.
S SHOWER yourself with gifts.
H Be HAPPY and open-HEARTED.

Everyone knows that love is a good thing. We love to give it and we love to receive it. But how often do we actually take the time to give it to ourselves?

Today, show yourself some love!

Spend some time doing things just for yourself. It might be sleeping in, reading a book, treating yourself to a massage or spending time with people you love and who build you up. Or, it might be investing some time in building your self-esteem and body image. Whatever you decide to do, remember that you are worth it!

Now, repeat after me Im smart, Im beautiful, Im funny and doggone it people like me. Stuart Smalley.

Awesome reminder of how to put yourself first. It's so easy to forget that and do so much for others that you don't realize it until you're worn out and tired lol.

Very timely blog! As moms, we so often put everyone's needs before our own and then there is nothing left for us. We do need that time to ourselves even if it's only 5 min every day!
