RUTH, FOLLOWING IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF FAITH, Wed, 2/13/2013

Pursued By Grace

Ruth 1:6-18
THREE WIDOWS IN A WASHPOT, Lesson 2b

V. 14-15 ONE WIDOW IN THE PLACE OF DEPARTURE

Orpah is a picture of a lost person who looks into the things of God and turns back to a life of sin without believing or embracing them.

She Returned To Her Relatives - Often family ties and affections are a hindrance to some people's receiving the Lord.

She Returned To Her Religion - Evidently, even after all she had heard and seen of the God of Israel, her gods were still the object of her love and devotion.

She Returned To Her Reality - Orpah would have never been happy in Israel. She was still tied completely to Moab in her heart! This is the tragedy of a lost church member!

Orpah is a picture of that person who is a "mere professor" of faith in the Lord. She walked away from the light and is never heard from again. Her eternal destiny is not hard to figure.

Psa. 9:17-19 - 17 The wicked shall be turned into hell, And all the nations that forget God.

18 For the needy shall not always be forgotten; The expectation of the poor shall not perish forever.

19 Arise, O Lord, Do not let man prevail; Let the nations be judged in Your sight.
Friend, don't turn your back on Jesus, He is the only hope you have.

John 14: 5-6- 5 Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?” 6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

TODAY’S VERSE!
Romans 8:5 (New King James Version (NKJV)
5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.

TODAY’S HYMN!
“Thou Art The Way” By: George W. Doane (1824)'

Thou art the Way: to Thee alone
From sin and death we flee;
And he who would the Father seek
Must seek Him, Lord, by Thee.

Thou art the Truth: Thy Word alone
True wisdom can impart;
Thou only canst inform the mind,
And purify the heart.

Thou art the Life: the rending tomb
Proclaims Thy conquering arm,
And those who put their trust in Thee
Nor death nor hell shall harm.

Thou art the Way, the Truth, the Life;
Grant us that Way to know,
That Truth to keep, that Life to win,
Whose joys eternal flow.

TODAY’S PRAYER!
Merciful Father, Awesome God! Help us to overcome any inhibitions we have about sharing our faith with unbelievers. We know of no greater gift than to give someone Your Love and Truth; to share with them the Good news of Salvation in Christ Jesus. Enable us to be sensitive to Your leading us and to the spiritual need of others. Grant us a sense of timing and the right words to say. Thank You for every opportunity You give us, for every door that You open to us, and for Jesus and His redeeming blood. These things we ask in His glorious name. Amen!

    Thank you Vic for another great lesson. I am constantly praying for my unsaved family and friends. I pray that one day they will accept the Lord and turn their lives around. As long as we can keep on following God's way, maybe our friends and family will see God in us. Thank you for the goodie and note. God Bless you Vic.!

    Thank you Vic. Another great lesson and I am renewing my prayers for unsaved family and friends, and asked God to grant me wisdom and love when interacting with them.

This is an awesome verse...but all Scripture is awesome!
Romans 8:5 (New King James Version (NKJV)
5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.

May I/we always set our minds on the things of God and His Holy Spirit.

Blessings, Joanie

    Before today, I never gave Orpah's decision a second thought. I thought she was obeying Naomi rather than choosing a Godless Moab. How sad she chose the way she did. Good lesson! Thank you.

  We must stand firm even if it means our family ties are severed.

    Ah, Ruth, one of my favorite..."Wherever thou goest..." God may we all have that kind of faith to follow Jesus! Thank you for the prayer.
