“Whoever you are, God or anybody else, you work with the materials at hand.”
—LAWRENCE BLOCK, American novelist
A woman walked into a post office one day to see a desperate-looking man standing at the counter, carefully applying Love stamps to pretty pink envelopes. He was even spraying each one with perfume.
Her curiosity piqued, she went over to the man and asked what he was doing.
He replied, “I’m sending out a hundred Valentine’s Day cards signed ‘Guess who?’”
“Why would you do that?” asked the woman.
He said, “I’m a divorce lawyer, and business has been slow.”
David McCallum achieved TV stardom in the 1960s as Russian spy Illya Kuryakin on The Man from U.N.C.L.E. Forty years later, he played Ducky, the medical examiner on NCIS. In a 2008 episode, Gibbs (Mark Harmon) is asked what Ducky looked like as a young man. Gibbs replies, “Illya Kuryakin.”
(I had such a HUGE HUGE HUGE crush on Illya! I still LOVE LOVE LOVE David McCallum to this day (although I don't watch NCIS). He is simply gorgeous. Sigh)
David Letterman has worn suits made of marshmallows, magnets, and nachos.
