Happy Birthday Mr. President!

Tuesday, February 12, 2013

Today is Abe Lincoln's birthday, so my college is closed since I live in the Land of Lincoln. It was so nice to have a random day off of work. I did some errands, drove to a nearby town and was back to start my homework by noon.

First, let's talk about President Lincoln. He led during a difficult time of our country's history. Actually, the word difficult doesn't really cut it. And he stayed the course. He was supported by the people around him, he believed in what he was doing and he always considered the big picture. (I have studied this president a little through my years of college)

Well, if he could do it during the civil war, I can take on those same characteristics for weight loss, right? I'm open about my thoughts, decisions and open to the support that people have already given me. I have my support network (you all included) in my family and friends especially. And my colleagues continue to impress me with their support. And no matter what obstacles show up in front of me, I have to remember that I'm not working for today, but also for tomorrow and next year and for my overall health. No matter how easy it might be to go back to old habits, the big picture reminds me that I want better for myself.

Those are my big thoughts for the day! Hope the words helped you celebrate Lincoln's birthday a little more! But I spent more than four hours today doing homework for my accounting class, and it was not pretty. I'm not used to struggling with something that involves numbers. I love numbers. I studied math in college every semester and enjoyed it. Now I teach a basic math course. What is wrong with me? I'm trying to stay positive, I already emailed a tutor, but it is not easy to spend so many hours working on something and then realize that you still don't get it.

Reminds me of how I've felt in the past about losing weight. Count calories and fat and sugars and strength training and cardio and days off and so many things to remember! But this time, I feel better about all of those things, all of the new habits I've gotten into so far this year. Sometimes I look around and can't believe that it's almost the middle of February and I'm still going strong. That's just crazy!

The day is over for me. Since I'm not watching tv this week, it's time to relax with a book for the next couple hours.

Happy Birthday Mr. President!
