Toys and Toes

Tuesday, February 12, 2013

To recover from a recent sprained ankle, my physical therapist told me I should lift marbles with my toes - it would help strengthen and train muscles, nerves, and tendons. I have long ago lost any marbles I had (ahem); however, scouting around the house, I found my now-grown daughter's collection of toys.

So now I have them under my desk at work and every so often, I pull off my shoes and socks and start picking them up and moving them from side to side. Now I just have to figure out something funny to say when someone asks what I'm doing. (Or if they can play too.)

Yes, that works well. My daughter's ballet teacher used similar exercise which I occasionally incorporate into my running. I read a blog from someone recently who picks up and tosses gravel behind him just for fun when running barefoot. Now that's beyond my current skill level. emoticon

I grew up throwing rocks into the water with my toes.
Tell your friends and coworkers that you are developing Monkey Toes.
Monkey toes have the ability to pick up objects. A very helpful skill if you ever break both hands!
