Tracking my hunger signals on the last day of carnaval in Rio
Tuesday, February 12, 2013
Today is the last day of Carnaval, so I took a long walk among the revelers on the beach. I packed some nuts, water, and sardines in case hunger would strike.
At around noon I noticed the first stirrings of hunger signals, decided to wait them out. They lessened and appeared again around a half hour later. I drank some water and observed the hunger sensations. I forgot about them again, engrossed in the walking and people watching. Some of the Carnaval costumes were very pretty. The beaches were a sea of people--really packed with wall to wall sun umbrellas. I started feeling my hunger fairly strong after another half hour of walking, so I sat down, took out one almond and savored it slowly. I checked in with my body to see if I was still hungry, and I was not satisfied yet. So, I savored another almond slowly. Fast forward to 6 nuts later, and I felt 80% full, so I stopped eating, satisfied.
We walked another half hour, took a bus home, and I had some sparkling water. Refreshing!
