Just Getting Started

Tuesday, February 12, 2013

I just got started on the site. Here's a little about me and my story with my body. I've always been overweight. I've tried a few different weight loss programs, including Weight Watchers. THey worked relatively well, but I was never able to keep it off. Now, I have graduated college. Ended up gaining about 25 pounds in my 4 years there. I studied health and nutrition and now have a BS in Nutrition and Dietetics. My problem now is that I feel like I can't get the kind of job I want until I lose some weight and am healthy myself. I'm hoping to be able to finally lose the weight for good and be able to use my story to help and inspire others to do the same. I got on this site as a tool for losing weight and to have people going through the same thing to help me along the way.
Encouragement is greatly appreciated here! :)

I hear your concerns over your job hunt, and I think with the work you will put in and the mistakes and successes, you have had and will have, it will make you even more qualified to help the people you seek to help. Keep the faith and Good luck! emoticon

Maybe you will be able to find that job that you deserve. While you are working, you can tell your patients that you are on a weight loss journey yourself and you can tell them about Sparkpeople. Make sure you use the nutrition tracker and the other trackers too!!

Guess what? I have a BS in health and nutrition. I work as a nutritionist and a year ago, I was considered obese. It has made for a great story for my patients who have seen the tranformation over the past year. I've lost 50+ pounds, am training for my first marathon, and I get asked about it ALL THE TIME. I love being able to explain to my patients that I've been there and I know it's challenging. My advice though, don't wait for your weight to apply for the job you want. Start now!
