My office has four digital cameras that people use for different projects. They sign them out and often take them into the great outdoors, where they are soiled, dropped, and otherwise mistreated. One camera usually lasts us a year. Granted, these are not top-of-the-line models because we know what they go through -- we try to keep each one to $100 - $150 a piece -- but still. We go through a lot. I've been here 10 years, and we've had A LOT.
In order to keep them straight, we name them. When I first got here, they were named after muppets (Miss Piggy, Beaker, Swedish Chef [hail that, Brad!!]). Then they became famous dogs from movies and TV (Lassie, Rin Tin Tin, Scooby Doo).
Then I took them over. Whoever takes over gets to name them.
I went with Sesame Street.
Pretty smart, if I do say so. There are a TON of characters to pick from, so I wouldn't have to find a new "category" every few years. Whenever one of the cameras dies, as in kaput, I send out an R.I.P. email to let everyone know it's not available to sign out anymore.
Today, Barkley died. You all remember Barkley?
Sure, he is a puppet. But how CUTE is HE??? How many of you would love to have a Barkley dog, because I sure would! As a kid I remember that he wasn't on Sesame Street that much, but when he was, I was fascinated. He's HUGE. He's FURRY. He's SNUGGLY. Good golly, I wanted one!
So, because I can't concentrate on a dang thing today and because I already had this pic since I mass emailed it to my entire office (yes, I do that, because we need to have a little fun now and then!), here it is for all of you too. Now you can look at him and smile like I am right now!
