While at the store on Sunday, I passed by the small fridge with healthy juices and smoothies that are located in the produce section. I love smoothies of all kinds and have even tried some of these healthy drinks in the past, normally when they are on sale since they can be expensive. I decided to give one a try since now I am trying to incorporate healthy eating habits into my diet. My drink of choice, Odwalla’s Original Superfood.
Now, yes when you look at it the color will take you off guard if you are used to artificial colors that make fruit soda look so pretty with, bright orange, red and purple. If you aren’t a huge veggie eater like I am the color will remind you of all the veggies you don’t like but know you should eat. Once you get passed the color and read the ingredients you realize that this drink really is…Super!
On the bottle it says that it has ½ a peach, 1500mg of Spirulina, 1/10 of a banana, juice of 1-1/12 apples, 1/5 of a mango, and 2- 2/12 Strawberries as well as wheat grass, barley grass, wheat sprouts, and artichokes. Plus there are no added sugars and is 100% juice. What an amazing drink, All of that healthy goodness in a 12 FL OZ bottle!
Now except for the fruit, I would never even consider eating all the “green” ingredients in this drink on their own. Maybe one day, when I have made the transition into being completely healthy with my food choices I will but now as I am trying to get myself off processed foods this drink is great for me to start eating these foods without eating them raw and with the help of fruit to reduce the overall “green” flavor.
Now, the drink is all natural so it doesn’t have that over sweetened taste that most drinks have these days. There is a little taste of the “green” ingredients but nothing that made me want to stop drinking it. The best part about it was that I was happy drinking something that I knew was healthy. It’s not a soda or other flavored beverage that tastes good but has no nutritional value. The calorie count is 190 so I would consider this a snack and not a drink to accompany a meal.
I love that feeling of eating something, or in this case drinking something that is good for me. I think that feeling is what will help me stay on track and make more healthy choices as I continue on this journey.
