Making Kickboxing Work for Me

I am a quivering mass of lactic acid! I've been feeling bereft on Monday nights ever since the Y stopped offering cardio kickboxing then. I've tried other things - the step training they offered instead, the cardio machines, but nothing spoke to me the way that kickboxing does. So last night, I did something about it. We don't get Wi-Fi back in the exercise room area so I preloaded my laptop with a YouTube video of a favorite kickboxing routine. I've done this routine at home but my cramped living room made me feel afraid to work hard because I was afraid I'd take out the piano or some other immovable object. Anyway, last night I made a chest high table out of step risers and cardio steps and put my laptop on it so that I could see and hear the video without any problem. Then I went at it!
It was a little bit embarrassing working out alone but I'm at that middle aged mama phase where I don't let that bother me. I could tell out of the corner of my eye that people stopped and looked in the windows on occasion. One friend, tapped on the glass to get my attention and waved. I was mid huffing and puffing so I just waved back and kept going. I'm sure I'm going to get a few comments from people at the Y tonight when I go. Maybe they'll join me next Monday! One lady that I don't know did come in and did her own thing in another corner of the room - jump rope and ab work. But that's what the exercise room is for when it's not being used for a class - for people to come and have space to do their own routines.
I exercise 5 to 6 days a week and have for some time. I sweat buckets in Zumba. I know that doing the YouTube kickboxing was not as strenuous as what I do with a real live instructor pushing me and urging me on. But I was still sore and dead on my feet by the end! My husband gave me a much needed massage last night. I'm sorry that he had to go to work this morning because I could use another one!
