Race Weekend Update
Monday, February 11, 2013
Well...the first race weekend for 2013 is in the history books. We did OK. But I think we hurt the car on one of our passes Sunday afternoon/evening. I got back to our pit area after one of hubby's runs and found he had the hood off the car with the engine running. There was a clattering coming from left side of the motor.
After much discussion, we decide to try and make the next round of Mustang Madness. The guy we were running was broke, so it would be a single pass. We went up, staged the car, took the light, then pushed the car back and went back to the pits. That's all we needed to do to move on to the next round. After hubby looked at it again, and more talk back and forth between us...we decide to take the risk and make the next round. And this one we had to run full out as out competition that round was running 9 seconds in the 1/4. We run 12's. If the motor held together all we could hope for is the guy was late on his light or went before his lights came down (a red light). Then we have won and gone into semi finals.
The flip side of that decision to run was that we could blow up our motor. And we don't have a replacement motor nor can we afford to buy another one. Well..we made the pass...the guy beat us plus we ran too fast (a 12.20 on a 12.22 dial..we had to stay slower then 12.21). But the motor held together.
So the next race isn't until April. We'll put the car in the garage and pull the intake and valve covers and see what's up. Hubby thinks it could be one of three things...a loose rocker spring, the valve itself, or a vacuum leak (due to loose valve cover bolts..that we couldn't get too at the track).
On an up note...hubby and I had fun...even with the rain delay and snow delay on Sunday. It was friggin' FREEZING out at the track (but it was a toast 75 in our race trailer!). We got the trailer parked in short order at home and I even got a load of laundry done before bed! We'll do some grocery shopping tonight. Here's a pic of us racing:
I won a Apple iPod Nano at work though our Healthy Tracks program, I picked it up today (I'll have to pay taxes on it though..those will come out of my paycheck!). I think I'm going to keep it as opposed to giving to Caleb for his Birthday. I'm pretty sure he has one already anyway. It's OK..kind of cute....but the Bluetooth on it is only for wireless headphones, speakers, or Bluetooth car audio and you can't put any apps on it. It came with Nike + on it but I wanted to put the FitBit app on it too. No such luck though. So I'll say I'm only semi impressed with it.
Eating was just so so over the weekend. I was up 2 pounds this morning but I had Panda Express last night so it could be the salt. I did get about the same amount of steps in that I normally do on the weekends. And who knows what dinner will be tonight!
So I guess that's it for this Monday..have a great one!
