Isaac Newton...vindicated

Monday, February 11, 2013

I saw something on the way home from the supermarket this afternoon that absolutely cracked me up!

Walking towards me were a herd of small boys, 9 or 10 in age, mucking about as boys of that age do. One golden haired little cherub was throwing a football into the air and nonchalantly catching it again.

All went well till he happened to do it while walking through a bus shelter.

The ball went straight up and hit the underside of the shelter roof. It then descended at about 90 mph, in a straight line, landing right on the top of his head!

I suppose it would have been marginally less funny if it had brained him! Though I suspect that being a nasty person, I still might have had a quiet snigger, but as it, was apart from going slightly cross eyed, and stopping chewing the cud for about 5 seconds, he was undamaged.

However, the look of absolute astonishment on his face, while experiencing this demonstration of Isaac Newtons second and third laws of motion, had to be seen to be appreciated!

None of the other boys even noticed! Shoulders shaking I walked on home!

Do you think he learned anything from that experience?
Since I probably have a warped sense of humor,,,, Thanks for sharing your chuckle.

Excellent - tho not perhaps for the little boy. Love your view of things - certainly not nasty - more quirky! Thanks for sharing.

as the mom of two boys- I kind of like when nature sets them straight- it is funny as long as they are not hurt but sometimes you have to save your laughter for when they can't hear you! lol

That's the kind of thing that would make me wake up in the middle of the night laughing aloud.

I once saw someone walking out of a fast food joint with an ice cream cone. Someone asked her the time and, you guessed it, she turned her wrist to look at the time and - splat - there went the ice cream scoop! That was in the 1970s and I still laugh!

My first thought on seeing your title was concern that you had been hit on the head by an apple. Glad that both you and the young man are ok!

Stonecot, you think you are a 'nasty person'? Something very similar happened to my boys many years ago. It was more than my shoulders that shook with laughter. Once I'd established that my negligent parenting hadn't enabled either of them to reduce themselves/each other to human veggie status - natch. The 'powers that be' can be so awkward about such things.
