Mardi Gras and Rainy

Monday, February 11, 2013

I don't go to Mardi Gras, even though it's just down the road an hour away. Just as well, I don't enjoy crowds, being outside for long periods, and rain. It's rainy and stormy today!

I ran errands early this morning, while it was dry outside and the road were not busy. With school out for Mardi Gras, I imagine traffic will pick up quickly today.

I survived Tax Weekend, which is the weekend my DH does our taxes! I always mess up my studio records, no matter how hard I try, and have to straighten them out, which I was doing yesterday. Must have done better though, as I didn't get "yelled" at. And I found two important documents for our personal taxes, with no effort. So there!

Anyway, I decided not to return to piano teaching. I haven't told DH yet, but as I only had 11 students, it's not really that big a deal. Pluses: no more SE taxes, no more hassles during Tax Weekend (see above), I have more time to take on more of the household chores so DH doesn't have to try to fit them in after work (trying to call the Dept of Motor Vehicles for him today, although their call volume is too high right now so I got bumped!).

I resigned as an officer in a state music org. as I realized that traveling (at my expense) three times a year (two in state, one out of state) to sit in meetings all day was not something I really want to do. That job finishes when they find my replacement, but it had better be soon, as I'm not going to the March out of town weekend meeting!

I resigned as an officer in our local music teacher org since I will not be teaching and thus will not be renewing my membership. That job finishes for me in May.

I'm keeping my position as officer with our local music club. I will stay active in that organization.

I joined a book club that meets once a month and attended the first meeting last week. That's something I've been wanting to do, but teaching piano ruled it out due to the times (I was always teaching).

I'm going to look for something else, non music related, to do, too. I'll take my time and see what comes up. I tend to be a home body, a loner, so doing the music club and the book club get me out and involved with groups of people.

I'll also be able to visit my son, my sister, my sil, etc at any time and not have to wait for school breaks due to students. I want to visit my son in DC before summer, maybe in April since he's coming home in March. He won't be there after September so time is limited!

Okay, enough rambling. Where's my 5% Challenge team invite??????

Good for you. I have realized that I've filled up my retirement years with obligations and I'm also looking for ways to cut back. Unfortunately I get to feeling guilty and back down. The book club sounds wonderful.

A book club sounds fun. What are you reading? When they first sent out the list for Determined Dasies back in January, I wasn't on it so I posted again that I wanted to be a DD again. Hope you get it straightened out soon.
