It's easier to train for a Marathon than to live HEALTHY

hi SPARK!!!

first of I RAN 2.5 miles today!!!!!!!!!!

that was my original blog, and why I was able to interval it today!

but I decided to write this one instead

Why is training for a Marathon easier than learning to live healthy you ask?

#1. All you need to do is FOLLOW a proven safe method (galloway etc)

if it says you will run 13 mile in wk 3, you probably can. 22 miles in wk 13 ...SURE!! as long as you follow the program

with my healthy lifestyle....what works this wk, may not work next, what works for you, may not work for me. Constantly needing to tweak the program.

and there is not ONE measuring stick!

one minute it's the scale, next it's size, and next it's how you FEEL??!!!!!

#2. Eating is t o FUEL your body when you train,

Ok it's easier to UNDERSTAND this concept when you train for marathon...bc your body will tell you that you need to FUEL!

unfortunately it's easy to mistaken this as t he MAGIC BULLET....
ex. so I ran 20 miles, I burnt 2000 cal....PIG OUT!!!!!

b/c I put my body is so much stress, it's easy to know when and how to fuel...where in a healthy lifestyle it's not that cut and dry

MY PROBLEM....I never learnt to eat right...so training for marathon didn't help. so after the marathon..... I picked up a brand new bad habit.... 2000 re-fuel days...

#3 There is an END DATE for MARATHON TRAINING!!!

you train for a YEAR....
RUN the race.......
first or last you get a MEDAL for you effort....and
you CRASH for the next month ;p (at least I did)

with my healthy living.....
I eat/fitness for 1.5 yrs (200% effort)
Dropped 20 lb and from size 14-2 (unsustainable)

WHERE was my goal???? was it 20 lbs? was it size 2???

either way... I wasn't happy......
and when you get there......where ever that is.....it's not YOUR DONE!!! woohooo

there is a thing called MAINTENANCE...which I think is the hardest!

I myself haven't reach there....at least in the real sense of the phase.


SO........I can't think of this a training for a marathon.

this is for LIFE

SLOW, steady, (I know repeat, but I need to repeat it for me!!!!!!!!!!)
I know I can take the weight OFF!!!

but can I keep it off!!!!!!!!!!


today was a break through.

like most run... I had a mileage goal....with NO walking

but I walked bc my cardio couldn't keep up.....
but today it didn't ruin my run! I didn't curse all the way home!

so I walked... my goal is to run a fast 5k!

put 150% on my 5k.... and it's only 30 mins...not 2 hour runs

eat right...so far I have been on track

Hope I haven't bored you with my a-ha moment today

    Are you kidding?! You didn't bore me! Once again we are in! the same place and I will be looking to you as a role model. No marathon here, but very long runs and excessive refueling. I've forgotten how to eat and track and the weight continues to creep back on. Anyway, you've got this. I know you are determined and will suceed. Hugs!!

    I think thi sis something a lot of us struggle with--- the why? the sustainable goal? the expectations when we get there? the happy part?

    I know my issue is emotional eating--- one thing I have learned this year:

    I need to eat enough-- and feel free to eat what I want--- my goal is to not be obsessed with eating/not eating etc, but to find the balance- while making food/eating non-threatening.....

    You dig - you will find your own way- forget all those plans- keep figureing it out one day at a time and re-adjusting accordingly!

    That's the beauty of this plan, it is all about YOU and how you can achieve your goals......its about allof us, we have to search inwards and have the streght (mentally and physically) to succeed.....x
