Biking: I like that my road bike is pretty light so I can go faster than before for a longer period of time. I enjoy that it's easy to maneuver and carry. But most of all I love riding. I love getting on that bike and going places, seeing things you never see in your car, but still getting to your destination in decent time. I just like to ride! Oh, and I love the calorie burn.
Yoga: If there's one thing that makes me feel "all around good" it has to be yoga. On my own I might do 15 minutes of moves/stretches before I wander away so a class is best for me to reap full benefits. See...I'm getting "more senior" all the time and without yoga I know I'd be stiffer, less agile and who wants that? The mind part of yoga was a surprise to me. It took me a couple of years of dabbling before I really "got" that part of it. The calming, quiet center. So yoga is definitely on my list.
Walking: I've tried running for years and got good weight loss results for my efforts. But after a surgery my ortho doc said "no more" and I found I was almost relieved. But walking? That's an entirely different deal. I LOVE to walk. Some of the reason for this is the same as biking - you can get around but you are involved in the world in a completely different, real way. From experiencing the scents drifting my way passing a barbecue place to the salt in the air when on a beach. From really living physically in the moment feeling the breeze, the heat or the cold. Walking is my base activity and I'm glad that after that surgery I mentioned earlier I can walk comfortably again. From letting my mind wander and ponder while getting my walk in. Yes!
Mindful Eating: OK, I'm still working on this one. But when I'm in the right food zone I feel so much better. I'm not one to say "I can't eat that" or "I'll never eat another cookie" but I'm working hard to become the one that says "because I splurged a little here I will compensate there" and doing it. I'm glad I have an easy, quick go-to breakfast that's low calorie when I know I need it. I love broth based soups to save some calories when it's time to tighten things up. I still will have the occasional hamburger but when I make my skinny baked fries to go with them? I know I've compensated and stayed on track. So I'd better add...tracking my food. That's the way I stay mindful. I stumble without it.
When I pull all these things together that I enjoy I'm in a pretty good place. I feel good, I'm generally losing weight with the mental "WOW" that brings. And I'm free to really enjoy my life, being the person I want to be, the person whose horizons are still pretty darn unlimited.
And that's just well, that's just what I like!
