Guess what amazing fantastic thing I get to do today?!?
I get to clean out the basement!!
Okay, Diana, Step away from the laughing gas.
Seriously though, I'm fortunate that I have a basement...and a house.
For those of you who live in warm places, we in Canada pretty much have to have basements. The frost line is about six feet down. Our foundations need to be below that six foot mark so that the foundation remains stable during the freeze/thaw cycle and our water pipes don't freeze and burst. ( It is also, incidentally, why we bury dead people six feet under.)
So our basements are sometimes living space but most often they are places where we just store our stuff.
When you have been in the same house for 24 years, that's a lot of stuff. So this week, I decided to start going through boxes and deciding what goes to charity, the kids, the summer home or the rubbish bin. That's a lot of decisions! and even more memories!
How many years ago did my daughter and I make that Rainbow God's Eye? And the ghastly clay fruit for the Lughnasadh cornucopia? and the Ukrainian eggs we did for Ostera ( one broken. That explains the smell) and the wax candle with the pine cones and fir fronds in it from a Yule when the boy was about 7. So many memories, so many crafts..So many boxes!
It's hard to decide to get rid of some of this stuff. It's worse to keep it all and allow it to clutter up my life, only to be left for someone else to pitch when I die. I know...my folks did that to my sister and I. We all keep things we don't need and they end up weighing us down.
It's time for me to loose some of the weight that isn't just on my body.
By the way,
Does anyone need a life sized paper mache model of the complete digestive system from mouth to...um,the other end?
Have a great day, everyone.
