"If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing." 1 Corinthians 13:1-3 (ESV)
Today, my pastor was talking about love. If you don't have love, everything you do means nothing. He went through the characteristics of love which are found in 1 Corinthians 13:4-8. You know this passage if you ever watched "A Walk to Remember" or maybe if you've been to a wedding.
"Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends." 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 (ESV)
This passage is one of my favorites. Because these are the things God has shown us no matter what our situation is. If we know God's love, only then, will we know how to truly love. Think about it. You may have fought with your family members or friends at some point, but have you ever had a fight with God? I sure hope not. Sometimes we ask God why things happen, but there's always a reason why things happen the way they do. Love others, love yourself. For if you don't have love, you are nothing. Everything you do is for nothing and only going to withstand this world. God's love is everlasting.
"Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love." 1 John 4:8 (ESV)
