My 1st Mile

Sunday, February 10, 2013

This morning I woke up & instead of doing my normal Sunday routine which usually consists of doing 1 of my workout dvds & then I try to get in a 4-5 mile walk. I decided to switch things up a bit. I wanted to get outside & experience some of the supposedly warmer weather & sunshine. Both seemed to be M.I.A. when we ctually got outside too, but that was ok. Nothing was going to stop me today. I was headed to the park & I was going to run!! So I woke my daughter & told her what I was doing & that if she wanted to go with me she had better get up. She looked at me with sleepy eyes as if to say "mom, are you crazy? It's only 8:30 on a Sunday morning." But she got up & got dressed & shortly there after we were out the door & on our way headed towards the park.

It took us 22 minutes to walk to the park. And the closer we got the more anxious & excited I was getting. I kept thinking to myself " I can do this! I can do this!" Then for a split second it was "Oh my gosh! What if I can't do this?" Then a second later my brain is screaming at me "YES! YOU CAN DO THIS!! " Finally we reach our destination. I am so excited I am almost jumping up & down.

My daughter decides that she wants to walk around the 1/2 mile loop 1 time before we start running. So we do. The morning air was crisp & clean. We could hear birds singing, and even seen a beautiful cardinal. We seen some squirrels scampering about. And on the back side of the loop that runs along the little stream we seen a male & female goose out for a morning swim.We made it around our warm up lap & as we approach the start I look at her & tell her "don't rush. Pace yourself. Are you ready? Let's go!" And then we're off & running. I was kinda surprised by how easy it seemed, how natural it felt. We made it about 1/2 way around the loop & as Bailey decides she has to stop she yells to me "Go Mama!" And I do I didn't stop. I kept going & as I am approaching my final turn I can see the end in sight I hear her yelling from from the distance behind me " Don't stop mama. You can do it. Go mom!! " I DID IT! I made the 1/2 mile loop not once but twice!! My 1st time around my time was 3.08.48 & my 2nd lap was 2.56.03. It was amazing & it felt great!! It probably took a good 2 hours to wipe the smile from my face. I felt on top of the world.

Unfortunately the park was starting to get crowded with doggies out for their morning walks so we decided to head back home. Next time we'll just have to get there earlier. Oh yes. There will be a next time. Today I ran my 1st mile. The 1st of many still to come.

You are a runner! I so love it! 3-4 times a week I run! I remember when I first started I did not think I would ever be able to accomplish it, but I keep doing it and as you I succeed. You got this girl! It is great therapy!

emoticon VALYNN26! That's the kind of spirit we all need! Thanks for writing your blog, it really inspired me! It's 35 degrees where I live in NY and going out after shoveling isn't my intention, but reading your blog was exciting and will help me get ready for Spring! Are you part of the "Trail Runners" Team on SP? I just joined it myself. Take care and kudos to ya!
