while we walk miles and miles every day, this was the first planned hike we have taken since arriving in molokai. our destination was ilio point, the north end of the shoreline. we left at 8:30, before it got too warm, and while the sea was at its calmest. we picked our way along the shoreline from beach to beach:
pelle the BC had his first hawaiian hike too:
i bent down to pick up a shell, and didn't notice that this fellow was just behind me, taking a break on the beach:
he had a friend who preferred the shade:
here is what the trail looked like:
we looked back, and saw the coastline behind us:
we looked down from the trail and saw lagoons and blow holes:
i always thought that ilio point referred to the point of land, but i wonder if it doesn't mean this rock:
we continued past it, and rounded the physical point to look to the north:
and then stopped for a picnic, and hiked back, with a stop to put our feet in the water to cool off; too rough for a dip, but it felt good at the edge of the beach anyway.
a beautiful day!
