Change in Image

Sunday, February 10, 2013

I made a change in my ticker image today to reflect a change in my way of perceiving my journey towards better health. I had previously had the image of the woman kicking down walls, with the brick background, to symbolize my efforts to kick down any barriers standing in my way. However, my largest struggle is with my chronic health issues and my counselor noted that it was not necessarily the most helpful thing to think about them in terms of being barriers. A barrier is something you knock over or surmount, moving beyond it, but my health problems (short of a miracle from God or an unexpected medical advancement) are not going to be something I simply overcome or move beyond. The counselor suggested that it would be better to think of them as something I learn to live with more smoothly, like flowing with the current, rather than swimming against it.

So I have changed my ticker to a picture representing the ups and downs of waves, with me as the swimmer. While the cycles of health issues and other difficulties in life will always be with me, moving up and down, I will keep swimming forward. emoticon

Acceptance is key! It takes more energy than I have to constantly struggle against something I have no power to change. Or, do I? I am reading The Science of Mind by Ernest Holmes. While it was written in 1938, he covers topics being presented currently. All the New Age studies I have done and I see traces of them all in his work. Interesting read and a wonderful perspective moderator. emoticon
