Drive to Win

"The man who can drive himself further once the effort gets painful is the man who will win."
~ Roger Bannister

I want to be the one who will win! I really do know that this means that I need to keep going even when things get painful. On this journey, painful really isn't physical pain so much as it is having to push back from desires that are so strong that they overtake my thinking.

Yesterday, I was working on a journal entry and my desire to have some not-so-healthy snacks was seriously overwhelming. The snacks aren't even in my home! I'd have to go out to get them if I were to have them. But the thoughts kept coming. I got up, found my tennis shoes, put the leashes on the dogs and out we went. Ten minutes into our walk, the thoughts were tumbling rapidly. All the thoughts that were stifled behind the meanderings of food. What a blessing! I still accomplished my goal even if not in front of my journal.

I really did drive myself further yesterday ... and I did feel like a winner!

You are definitely a winner! Just 10 minutes of exercise can make our tummy's demands quiet down. Your dogs thank you, too, for the lovely walk!
Good Job! Well played!

You truly ARE a winner! Funny that those thoughts that come unbidden, isn't it? ...sometimes I really wonder about their origin. But you acted decisively, and found a solution that was NOT giving in to what your head knew wasn't good for you. You overcame because you DID tap in to your drive to win, and I'll bet you made the pups happy, too!

Thanks for posting this - it really helps to know others have found ways to press forward, ways I can imitate. :)

Have a wonderful day, Cathy.

:) Gail
