Today I ran my second 5k of the year. I ran the Cupid Cup 5 k in Charlotte with friends. We had a great time. My goal when I went out was to beat my 1st 5k of this year by coming in at about 10:29. Not only did I beat it but I exceeded that goal. I was really very surprised and excited at the same time. I ran Cupid in 2011 before my hip surgery and came in at 9:28. It was my best pace ever. I've not been able to run that pace since and I don't ever expect to. I'm excited that I can even run. Today I started running the race and as I was going uphill I felt as if I was going a little to fast but I also felt great. I decided to slow down slightly and continued running. I felt so great. It seemed like the race went buy so fast. When I finally crossed the finish line it was at 30: and a few seconds (can't remember exact). I was really shocked because I thought I was running slower then that. I looked at my garmin and it said something similar. I had not looked at it throughout the entire run. When I looked at the board my chip time showed I ran 9:58 minute miles. emoticon I WAS EXTREMELY EXCITED. All the girls that went did better then the goals they set also. I personally never thought I would be able to run under 10:30 again let alone under 10:00. That's not all though, after the race we all went out to run the additional 6 miles we needed to complete for our VIRGINIA BEACH SHAMROCK HALF. It was hard but we emoticon . So proud of me and that I have not given up. Can't wait till the next race.
