BLC 21 Blog Assignment: My Progress So Far

My assignment is to write about my progress so far. I think of my progress in terms of lifestyle changes. My weight is down only 20 pounds from my highest figure (PUN) but I have made significant gradual changes that I believe will aid me in a healthier life....

I would hesitate to claim that these are HABITS; however, right now they are consistent behaviors and I do intend to continue them.

Spark is the one place it seems okay to toot your own horn. I know my Navy Ninja teammates from BLC 21 cheer me on when I am accomplishing something. The I - I- I sound is uncomfortable, but the easiest way I know to evaluate choices is to make a list.

Things I am doing that promote healthy lifestyle:

I track everything I eat. For six weeks I have kept my calories in recommended spark range.

I weigh weekly.

I drink 8 to 10 glasses of water daily, often more.

I schedule exercise for the upcoming day.

I have exercised for at least 20 minutes every day for a month.

I have attend strength training class with my husband three times a week.

I don't eat after the evening meal.

We eat at home most of the time.

I have learned to cook a huge variety of foods, including international recipes.

I have learned to shop smart and maximize food value for dollar spent.

I have learned that I am worth (and my family is worth) high quality food from the grocery store (but I seek out bargains and I economize where it doesn't hurt health and good flavor).

As a family we avoid wheat and sugar and artificial sweeteners. (okay, I buy sugarless gum sometimes)

As a family we eat lots of fruit, veggies, healthy fats, and high quality meat.

I don't eat off the kids' plates and put leftovers away quickly.

I plan for moderate treats several times a week but not constantly.

I have cultivated a number of sources of joy that are not food-related.

I seek to give thanks to God frequently.

I ask God's help frequently in matters large and small.

I am working on trusting God to run the universe without my help.

Take my vitamins.

Don't eat standing up.

Don't eat in the car, unless truly traveling.

Pray more.

Do specific exercises from my chiropractor.

Move to heavier weights for strength training.

Walk faster with more jogging included.

Have courage to tackle the four-mile square block of sidewalk near me.

Stop thinking about cookies.

Smile at my husband and my kids.

Eat more green leafy vegetables.

Do Kegel exercises in spare moments.

Keep my frig better organized.

Learn to make fermented food.

Soak up more truth from the Bible.

Take some naps.

Eat more yogurt & kefir.

Lots more stretching.

Organize the unmatched socks so I can find my good ones for workout.

I'm sure the NEEDS TO IMPROVE will require another whole blog, but I'm running out of steam. Plus I want to check off this activity for my team challenge!!

    Looks like you earned some bragging rights! Hey - you are provoking me to good works, so this blog was a blessing.

I especially liked "Trust God to run the universe without my help."
Really makes one think. We think ourselves to be so important, but the truthh is, God has everything in His control, and doesn't need our help.
Puts things in perspective.

    I loved every word of your blog today. I felt like we were on a walk together around that block that challenges you. The more we talked about God running the universe without our help, the faster we walked!! Seriously, our lists are so similar. It helps to know that you are out there with the same struggles and goals.

You have accomplished so much, I am delighted by your summary.

    Love what you are doing! It is a great list.

AS for you second list, you have your future goals listed. Most of them are simple and do able.
The only way I remember to take my evening meds and vitamins is to set the times on my cell to remind me. Many of the changes you have listed can be achieved by scheduling them or tie them to something you already do.

As for that 4 mile square block... try for a 1/2 mile then turn around. then 3/4 of a mile and turn around. Before you know it you will not have to turn around. :)

I know you can and will achieve your goals.

    Yes it is hard to say I I I but you are right you do need to blow your own horn as you are doing so well, so go for it. Keep up the good work.
