snowshoeing through fairy dust

Saturday, February 09, 2013

After yesterday's freezing rain we got a couple inches of light, fluffy snow. It was so light and powdery it was more like fairy dust than snow. So after lunch with my parents today my brother and I went out snowshoeing. It was actually rather warm out (24 degrees), and the wet layer underneath meant it packed pretty well once you plowed through the light stuff. My brother took a couple of pictures. I will have to see if I can post them tomorrow.

Lunch was lovely. We had ground lamb with veggies and dried fruit with North African spices and seasoning. We put it over brown rice. We also had fresh bread I bought at the Farmer's Market this morning. We finished the meal with Citron Fromage for dessert. We calculated it ran about 110 calories per serving. It was nice and light and lemony. My mom makes it fairly light on the sugar, so it is more tart than sweet, which I really like.

I managed to find fresh lettuce and tomatoes at the Farmer's Market today. That was wonderful! I live in western NY so fresh veggies are out of season right now, but the farmer there today has a greenhouse. I can hardly wait to indulge in a nice green salad. I also got garlic, gouda and ground goat. (I just realized those all start with "G" lol.)

I was thinking about going to the gym today, but it is a scheduled rest day for me, and I am going to follow the plan and not go run. I am going to wait until Monday, and then go do another insane workout. I might be a little crazy, but I love the way I feel afterward.

This might have been our last chance to go snowshoeing, so I am glad we got out there today. Besides, it was so pretty, with the sun shining and the snow glittering. My brother and I are going to hit the end of season sales for skis for me and new snowshoes for him. Then we will be ready for next Winter!

Snow is so fun, but it is probably going to melt pretty soon!

Wow what a difference some miles make. Here in the southern finger lakes we had heavy wet snow on top of feathery light (about 10 inches worth). Would have been great snowshoeing. Bought our grandchildren snowshoes several years ago, but they are in AZ now. We belong to a CSA and I absolutely love fresh organic vegetables, fruit and fresh flowers.
Sounds like you are rocking it. emoticon

I eat a lot of goat, cultural thing, but I hadn't thought to try ground goat. I bet that makes an awesome pasta sauce. I don't think they sell it in my area.

Garlic and Gouda are on the AA list. I wonder if they even think of goat. You dinner sounded very special, almost like an Easter Sunday dinner! Do you share recipes on SP?
