Simple goal success

Saturday, February 09, 2013

First I have to say I was shocked to see I had a 'featured blog' award. I had to see what I got it on. Really the 'simple goal' one? The one about my dang skittles.

A girl can loose 60+ lbs, hike 1000, of miles, run 4 half marathons in one year, bike ride all over the place and do a triathlon. All while blogging about it quietly to herself, and the world.

Then she admits to a silly simple little struggle that shouldn't even be a struggle the dang bag of skittles... and 'poof' she's a featured blog. Gotta love it.

Now I feel obligated to do a follow up blog about the skittles. It's kind of funny.

I was successful all week I had not one skittle! WIN for me! Most of the days it was easy. I even got the staff in the classroom on board with no skittles. Friday was a hard day. One of the kids I was working with had 3 melt downs. I was having a 'blue day'. Just dreading the day for some reason. I was hungry cause my snack failed me.

I wanted skittles!!!

I told my co worker that I was hungry and it was an hour until lunch. She looked at me and said very load "NO SKITTLES!" All the kids look at us and I put on a show for them. They are laughing. Now all the kids know I'm not to have any skittles.

I survived the day!

Last night I had a dream. I was at work and the class was in complete chaos. All the kids where having melt downs the staff wasn't able to control it much. I was found hiding in the back corner of the room. (an area we call the brake space) I had the whole costco bag of skittles and I was stuffing them into my mouth by the handfuls! emoticon

Lesson I learned is that the skittle have taken the place of a stress eating food. When I get stress I "chew". (not tobacco) I chew on ice, I use to chew gum, I have been chewing on the skittles. Talk about empty calories. YIKES.

So now the mission is what can I 'chew' while stressed at work that has no calories. Problem with gum is I also have to snap it. I can't help it, so gum won't work at school.

My ex use to chew on straws. Well, he also chewed on paper, but straws sounds a little more normal LOL I hope you find something that will satisfy that need to chew!

Very cool about your featured blog!

I get the same sort of thing and I've been drinking plain sparkling water when I get those munchies. I sometimes add 1-2 oz. of pomegranate or orange juice or a squeeze of lime or lemon. It's still not yummy but for some reason it tricks me in to thinking I'm having something more filling or more indulgent than regular water.

I might suggest carrot sticks or celery sticks but I don't know if they really would take off that edge?

It's tough when those urges hit at work because you can't just go out for a run or do something else majorly distracting.

I love that those you work with and the kids are helping to support you in your quest to give up the skittles! Very cute!

Keep the fight and let us know if you find something else.
