A New Workout Valentines Day Gift!

Today is day 43 of my current streak! (Previous streaks; 290 days and 13 days.)

Valentines day is coming, and in the past I always looked forward to getting the traditional Valentines day gifts.....such as a dozen roses and a fancy heart shaped box of chocolates. The bigger and fancier the box of chocolates was, the better! It always seemed like such a romantic thing to me.

Things have changed this year! We are on a tight budget now. But a couple of weeks ago, hubby mentioned Valentines day and asked if I wanted a box of chocolates. I answered that with a great big NO THANK YOU! I don't want a box of chocolates and a dozen roses, or anything like that. Nope, this year I wanted a new workout!

So hubby told me to decide what I wanted, and said he would get it for me if he could. I have been wondering about kettle bell workouts, so when I found a beginners kettle bell workout for a reasonable price, I decided that I wanted to try it out!

This is the one I comes with 2 kettle bells (3 lbs and 5 lbs), plus a workout DVD with 4 workouts;

I thought this would be a great starter workout for me to see if I really liked this type of workout. The price was reasonable, and it will last a lot longer than a dozen roses or a box of Godiva chocolates!

Hubby ordered the workout for me, and it arrived last Wednesday. Unfortunately, I was sidelined by back pain and unable to workout, but I watched all the workouts on the DVD and I liked what I saw. I think this workout will be a good addition to my regular workout, DDP Yoga. It was hard not to just jump right in and start doing the workout, but I didn't want to hurt my back anymore than it was already hurting, so I forced myself to wait.

Well, my back is feeling better, so this morning I got up and tried out my new workout...and I really liked it! I think as I get better, I will like it more and more. Who knows? Maybe in time I will get heavier kettle bells and more workouts. The workout I did this morning was for upper body, and it raised my heart rate and made me sweat a little.

So I got my Valentines Day gift a little early. It might not seem like the most romantic gift in the world, but its exactly what I wanted!

This is fabulous -- how thoughtful of your husband to treat you to something that you want and that supports you instead of the usual stuff. This reminds me of that adage: we treat people how to treat us. All this self-love you show yourself is powerful!

Take good care of your back! emoticon

emoticon That's a gift that will "keep on giving". Not that roses aren't beautiful and chocolate isn't yummy, but they go away after a short time and this gift will be useful to you for a long time to come!

Your husband is very sweet! You don't need chocolates if you have HIM! :)
I did a short course in kettlebell training and liked it A LOT. Sadly I couldn't continue because of a tennis-arm. Wishing you lots of FUN!

I think that's a great gift, Pixie. We have a 10 lb kettle bell, which is way to heavy for me. I put this workout on my wish list at Amazon. I think this one will be perfect for me. Thanks for sharing the link.

    Great gift Pixie! emoticon
The boyfriend and I don't do Valentine's Day (we do un-Valentine's Days everyday), but this year I asked for workout socks. emoticon Not romantic either, but I really needed them. (I got them today)
Happy un-Valentine's Day Pixie! emoticon

I love Kathy Smith's DVD's. I use her dumbbell workout and lower body workout.

Enjoy those kettle bells! They sure look like they give a good workout.

Congrats on the useful gift!! I'd like to know if the 3 and 5 pounds give you much of a workout. I have used kettle bells a little bit and was told they need to be heavier to get a core workout!
