I've been attempting my steps

Saturday, February 09, 2013

This week I've been managing more than 5000 steps a day, sometimes more, sometimes less. I even got around to cleaning the house. Earlier this week my steps were closer to 10,000 each day and now I can feel it in my legs. I was vacuuming and anyone that does it right knows it includes picking furniture off the floor to get under them. I have this nice box that serves as my coffee table in addition to housing some items inside. I had no problem lifting it onto the couch, but I think I twisted my knee a little on the way back down.

I'm also not sure if I injured myself trying running this summer and I think I messed it up again this week. I'm not in a ton of pain, so I can still get out of the house (two flights of stairs to leave my apartment, no elevators!), but I am tender.

I'm not sure if I should go see the doctor about it, but nothing feels broken. I will eventually have to see my doctor, since it has been more than a year since I've seen him last. I will also be printing up some of the info from here, his "weight loss advice" was lacking and uninspiring. It's hard to take advice from someone who has never had the problem nor is confident in his advice. "Reduce the carbs" he said, well, we need carbs to live, "cut out the junk food" would have been better advice. Either way, I am smaller than he saw me last and I have enough advice to give him when I see him next about what to say to his other clients he has that are having weight issues.

I will still be attempting to get my steps in, even if my entire right side is aching. It will eventually stop hurting if I don't push it too much. I just don't want it to break completely, I rely on my ability to walk for every day use. I'd hate to injure myself so much that I can't get my kids to the bus stop.

Ouch, I hope you're on the mend and that nothing worsens! I've been having feet pain, went to the doctor last year and she wasn't helpful at all.

We need our knees, feet, back, etc... to stay healthy! Very important to take care of them.

You ARE doing Amazing! Love your progress pictures! So inspiring!

I would try Aleve, that's what I use when I 'zig instead of zag'. It reduces the swelling in the sore muscles and helps you to move more normally.

I am so behind in my feed - I hope that you are on the mend and feeling a bit better.
I can't wait to hear how your dr's appt goes! I need to make an appt, as well, and I can't wait for my health record to reflect my new weight and BMI.
Hopefully you'll be back to getting your steps in in no time!

Well the way I see it, go to your doctor if it isn't better soon to have your kne checked and kill to birds in one stone by also getting that yearly visit at the same time. Yes, I sgree many doctors just say lose some weight. I had one doctor tell me your jist eating too much. Really, I take a slug of meds each day but since exercising and beginning to watch my food intake when I first started I was able to get off doing insulin shots each day. Funny they just look at the scale weight, not seeing that non weigh loss things are happening. So , doctors too can get helpful advice from their patients.

Motrin type meds will help the knee a little. You might try alternating heat and cold on it. When you relax (what's that?) you might try keeping it above your heart. That also helps with pain. When I was a teenager I stretched the ligament going across the knee. Be careful with it. Hopefully it will heal soon.
I too, am cleaning house. I can actually see my dining room table I'm sure dh will have it covered within 5 minutes of coming home.
Hope you feel better soon and the weather improves for you. Cold and windy here today. Both younger dd and I are using it as a cleaning day. emoticon emoticon

Be very careful! You may want to try a non-weight bearing exercise instead until your injury heals (like swimming, stationary bike, floor exercises, weight machines etc). I'm speaking from personal experience -- I kept walking on an injury and made the injury much worse!

If I need to use one of these other options, I go to our community gym which is low cost and doesn't charge membership fees.
