Preparing for the storm

Friday, February 08, 2013

For days now we have heard about this big winter storm named Nemo. My SIL quips,"well we found Nemo." So we stocked in bread, milk and low fat Ice cream. Prepared the shovels and calcium spread. Tucked the grill in a corner on the back porch, we leave it out as I grill all year round, and removed anything that could blow away. I went to school today and we closed early. I hurried home to get off the roads. I curled up with a book, the cat and a rerun of Dr. Who and found I dozed off. I woke 2 hours later refreshed and excited to see the snow....it wasn't. We have a dusting and the 12 inches are now changed to 6 possible over night. I'm not a big fan of winter, I love the concept of winter. White fluffy snow, warm fires, nippy refreshing winds, a white, hushed world all the things of winter but the older I get the cold, slippery roads, dry skin and wet feet don't appeal to me. But I always look forward to the storms.

Glad it didn't amount to much for the sake of folks who have to be on the roads or work in it, however, if it's like our area, we are desperate for snow. It's how we irrigate our fields and get our water. We're in an awful drought. Send any you don't want this way!

My daughter loves Doctor Who. I'm sorry you didn't get your snow. I do agree with not liking the roads, but that is part of life up here. Glad it wasn't as bad as predicted for you.

We have heavy wet snow in upstate NY. It is cold and blowy and the roads are....there under the slush and ice. You know coming home the headlights lit the trees and it was like a fairy land. Every branch laced in white. Beautiful. And yes, I am glad to be home and not have to venture out until the snowplow calvery gets everything cleaned up. Great book and hot soup weather. Enjoy.
