Final Books

Friday, February 08, 2013

The thing about books: I am not joking when I say that they are my obsession/addiction. I always have two of three books in my car, just in case. I have one on the front seat that I can read while waiting for the train to go by. If I do not have a book with me, well, let’s just say that I GO CRAZY!! I have been reading since I was four years old, and I expect to consume books for many years to come.

One problem is travel. Books are heavy, even if they are paperback books. One time, at the airport, I had to remove some books (paperback) and put them in my husband’s luggage (thank goodness) because my luggage was overweight!! The books were the problem.

My husband solved that problem for me when he purchased me a Kindle. WOW! I was not sure that I would like it, because I really, really like holding the books, turning the pages, etc. However, I find that my fixation can be handled pretty nicely by the Kindle. That is, if I get some books on it. I expect that I will need 25 books for our next trip (gone 22 days), just in case. I may only ready 15 of the books on the trip, but, well, no one wants me to be “out” of books. Just say’in!

I, too, became an avid reader as a child.

I understand!!! My Dad taught me at an early age to always have a book available so that I wouldn't get impatient with waiting. I also love the feel of books in my hands, but the weight of some of those books makes me glad to be able to read on my kindle. I'm also one who takes more books than I need on vacation. emoticon

I read on the elliptical machine and am glad to increase the font size so my movement doesn't make me lose my place. One touch page turning is great. With a book, I have to carefully move the page so as not to tear it on the edge of the book holder. The thicker the book, the harder that is to do!

My Dad got an android tablet last year and we downloaded the free kindle app for him. He also loves the feel of books, but can no longer see them clearly enough to read with ease. Having a backlit screen and a variety of font sizes available has made all the difference for him between giving up reading and still being able to enjoy it!

I too love books! I have not broken down yet and bought a Kindle but probably will eventually! I also have books in my car, some by my bedside and some by my chair in my rec room. I've read over 40 since Jan. 1. (Guess it's good I'm retired emoticon ) Everyone tells me they love using the Kindle so I am sure you will also.

I loved my old Kindle, but I dropped it one time too many and it broke as did its replacement (I think my daughter broke that one). Now I have an Ipad. I too love books, and I buy them for a dollar at Dollar Tree or the Library. I also frequently visit the library. I have some books on my Ipad, but I usually play games whenever I pick it up. If my typing is off, it's because I'm Sparking on the Ipad! I used my Kindle when we went to London and it was so handy to read on the subway or in the bus when we were on long trips. When you are on a tour, there is a lot of waiting around. Perfect for reading. Airports have great bookstores. Have you read Diana Gabaldon? Her books are really long and would be perfect on the Kindle. She's one of my favorite authors living today.

Yes, I love my Kindle. WHAT tablet has BOTH the Kindle/Nook apps? I do not plan to upgrade for a year or more, but I am intrigued!

I've had a Kindle Fire for over a year now. I didn't think I would ever like having something like that, but wow! I love it!
Things get very slow at my job sometimes and I work 11 hour days, so I have to have a book to read in order to make the time go by faster.

I do still read regular books too- just bought 3 new ones at Barnes & Noble yesterday.

Also, I've learned how to download TV shows into my Kindle so I can watch TV too.

You'll love your Kindle. I have a tablet with both the Kindle & Nook apps and I never leave home with out it. Because of DH's chronic health problems, I spend a lot time in waiting rooms so I end up reading while I wait.
