I'm writing this to remind myself how successful I can be, and how grateful I am to be surrounded by people who encourage and challenge me to work hard.
On Sunday evening, after the SuperBowl, I did 25 minutes of Jillian's No More Trouble Zones. I don't normally workout that late, but I was buzzing with energy for some reason, so I decided to channel it into action.
On Monday, I went to both Hard@ss and Hardcore, taught by Alyson. Tara, Katie, Big Katie, Angela, and Laura were there as well!
On Tuesday, I met Laura after work. We did barbell squats [3 sets of 8 reps, 95 lbs], bench presses [3 sets of 8 reps, 95 lbs (aiming for 135lbs)], lateral pulldowns [3 sets of 10 reps, 65 lbs], and weighted calf raises [3 sets of 8 reps, 45 lbs]. We finished our workout with 30 minutes on the elliptical.
On Wednesday, I took Cardio Kickboxing, then met up with Katie, Big Katie, and Angela for Hardcore with Alyson. Have I mentioned I love Alyson? Greatest fitness instructor on the planet. She's the perfect combination of encouraging and "mean"/crazy ambitious. At the end of class, right before 2 minutes of planking, she made us do donkey kicks for what seemed like eternity (probably 5 minutes each side?). People were groaning like crazy near the end. Love it.
On Thursday, I met Laura again. We repeated Tuesday's workout, adding 1.5 minutes of bicycle crunches before the elliptical. She told me she had always wanted to use the big weights, but was intimidated by the herd of guys surrounding every piece of equipment. I told her that in my experience, the guys were super helpful, offering recommendations for better execution. While she was squatting, I told her she needed to make sure she wasn't bringing her knees forward, and the guy next to us offered advice: "If you keep your feet a little bit wider apart, it will help. Also, keep all your weight in your heels. You should be able to wiggle your toes." YAY! I was pumped that he showed her that our gym is a great place.
Today is Friday. I managed to get through the entire Jillian Michaels No More Trouble Zones prior to work.
Tomorrow, I plan to go for a 2-mile run. Sunday's rest is going to be well-deserved this week!
I haven't weighed myself, but I feel great, other than being a little tired. I know the tired feeling will eventually fade. I don't know if I'll ever be someone who is "addicted" to exercise, but I know that this is my moment. I have the time, I have the access, I have a great group of friends who seek me out to work out with me (what!?). Like I said, feeling great.
