Don't Tell Me You Can't!

Thursday, February 07, 2013

Just admit that you won't!

60 years of bad habits and not really caring about what damage I've inflicted on my body AND I still changed! Here's what I found out when I asked DSSECRETS what motivated her to change...

She said, I used to always tell people that I married young (she's 11 years younger than me) so she could take care of me when I got old. I got really sick in 2010. It was bad and it took me a while to recover. Like most men, I was such a whiney baby! THAT's when she saw the future. That's when she started changing, Aug 2010. In October, I noticed she was going out on walks in the evening. She started eating differently. I was wondering what was up and asked her what's up.

Someone at work told her about a diet doctor, she went/ The doctor gave her diet pills and told her what to do. She had lost 6 pounds, then nothing. She went back to the doctor and out comes, "What are you doing wrong?" or some kinda crap like that. NICE! That's when D decied she didn't need the pills and could do this herself. One thing that stayed with her that the "doctor" recommended...SparkPeople!

She didn't tell me the part about seeing the future when I got sick. That came when we were already deep in the lifestyle change. In any case, I wanted to support her so I signed up, wasted a couple of weeks playin' around, and then committed to the St Petersburg Times Turkey Trot in November! THAT's when I got a bit more serious. We survived that first 5 K. The next two years were...wait for it...EPIC!

D and I have healthy lifestyle habits now! We actually catch ourselves all the time in conversation, stop, look at each other, then start laughing! We usually follow up with, "Can you believe how we're thinking now?" "Did you ever imagine?" and the natural icing on the whole wheat cookie, "I can't imagine ever going back to our past lives!"

Take whatever you want from all this but don't ever tell me 'you can't!' I know the real reason!
Stay strong. Much love

Good for you and DSSECRETS! I'm still hoping on my hubby wanting to act - he's "thinking" about it but hasn't really gotten past that, yet.

It's strange. You think you are going to have to make so many sacrifices to lose weight and gain fitness. And maybe it feels like that at bit at the beginning. But as your health improves you realize all the benefits make the "sacrifices" a total joke.

I agree! I turned 64 this week. If I can run a half marathon and keep up with Jillian Michaels workouts, then just about anybody can. They may have to start slowly, but they can do it! Thanks for sharing your story.

You two are such an inspiring couple story! Well done to both you and D!

And while we're at it: don't tell ME you've failed before so you can't do it again! Both Marsha (SLENDERELLA61) and I are testaments to the "overnight success" following years of failed attempts.

Spark People abounds with heroes, for those who are reading these comments... look around. We are HERE! And we KNOW you can do it, too!

How true. I did not want to change for years. I was comfortable eating junk and not exercising and being unhealthy until my years of bad habits caught up to me and slapped me in the face last March. Now I could not imagine ever going back. I am still a work in progress, probably always will be, but I am no longer stagnant. You and your wife our so inspiring. Even though my hubby is not on Spark people he is very supportive and has changed his habits as well. We are both eating healthier, exercising, and no longer smokers.
